Now that Book-It is completed we will be starting a new activity to reward the students for getting their planners signed each night. If a student has their planner signed EVERY DAY they will gradually work to complete a picture of a root beer float. This week they will be coloring a spoon, straw and cup, next week they will color the ice cream and the following week they will color the pop. At the completion of this activity, those with their planners signed every day over this 3 week period will be rewarded with a root beer float on April 30th.
On April 16th, I will be sending the last book order for home for the year. This will be due back to the school on April 23rd.
Just a reminder, we do have an early outs for Professional Development at 1:30pm on the following Wednesdays: April 14th, April 28th and May 12th.
We will be concentrating a lot of time toward farm animals in the next few weeks. We will be reading stories (fiction and non-fiction) and learning about these animals. We will be having an FFA animal day next month so we are preparing our minds for this. Our FFA PALS came last Friday and taught us a little about dairy and helped us make homemade ice cream in a ziploc bag. We had lots of fun and we got to add sprinkles and chocolate syrup to make it taste even better.

Spring is among us!
I know you have all received a letter regarding extending our school day but I wanted to remind you that this officially started today. It may be an adjustment to the students but it is definitely beneficial for everyone in the long run. We are also going to transition in to ending our rest time after this week. We have shortened this period and will refrain from them entirely after Friday. You should see your child's rest mat, blanket, etc. come home on Friday and you do not need to return this.
I would like to extend my thanks to everyone who made it in for conferences last week. I would also like to remind you that we have an early dismissal next week due to Easter break. The students will be getting out at 1:00pm on Thursday the 1st and there is no school that Friday. We will, however, be having school on Monday the 6th in order to make up one of our snow days. This is a change from the original schedule so please be aware.
At this time in reading we are working on the sound of D and we are learning about wheels, in math we are learning to estimate, and in science we are learning about wood and paper. Ask your child what they are learning about these things.
In the near future I will be sending home 1 more book order for the year.

We will not be sending a snack calendar home this month as we have an abundance of snacks left. Our Visitor Day is Wednesday and the students are looking forward to sharing their work with you. We will be celebrating our 100th day of school this Friday and our Valentine's Day party will take place on Friday, February 12th. We continue to work on our sight words and we have been reading Mother Goose Rhymes.
